Parallels is an electronic-pop duo consisting of Cameron Findlay (former drummer of Crystal Castles) and honey-haired front girl Holly Dodson, whose vocals combine the intense balladry of Kate Bush with the sweetness of Kylie Minogue and Madonna’s true-blue era. A true front woman through and through, Dodson channels the magnetism of free-spirited predecessors like Marianne Faithful and Stevie Nicks whilst weaving together sounds of static circuitry with lilting neu-Italo undertones into a patchwork of complex sonic stratums. Using a collection of vintage synthesizers and uptempo HI-NRG rhythm patterns, Parallels has been likened to the classic pop sentiments of Giorgio Moroder, New Order and Depeche Mode.
2008 saw drummer Cameron Findlay wrapping up a national tour with Crystal Castles, allowing him more free time to record demos of what would later become the foundation of Parallels’ repertoire. Emailing Holly Dodson the partially completed tracks he had been working on, a co-writing partnership quickly sparked leading to the completion of their first single ‘Ultralight’ – a perfect blend of disco pop and sonic dystopia. Returning home at the end of his 2008 tour with Crystal Castles, Findlay shifted his focus to this new project where the two soon began to write and develop the track-listing which would eventually become debut full-length, Visionaries.
Recently playing SOLD OUT shows in San Francisco and Vancouver, Parallels have shared the stage with internationally-acclaimed artists such as Florence and the Machine, The Juan MacLean, Sebastian Tellier, Crystal Castles, Midnight Juggernauts, A-Trak, Broken Social Scene and Miami Horror. Creating quite a stir with their various collaborations, including an official remix for English indie quartet Delphic’s track ‘This Momentary,’ Parallels have indeed been taking the world by storm. Track ‘Find The Fire’ off their debut LP Visionaries was recently featured on the Kitsune Maison Compilation 8.
