IAN was originally the solo project of Jilian Medford or (IAN), a nickname given to her in high school for being a tomboy. She started playing under the name when she arrived in Boston to study at Berklee College of Music after growing up in Los Angeles. Jilian (IAN) released her first EP in 2013 titled “Have you ever loved anything this Much?” Tim Cheney (current drummer) attended a basement show Jillian was performing at and approached her about collaborating.
The two started playing together under the IAN moniker and immediately hit the road, doing a short tour around New England. Upon returning they began reconfiguring the songs for recording and enlisted bassist Damien Scalise to complete the trio. After another tour covering New England, New York, Philly, DC, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia the three began planning for the future. In December the three will be traveling to the West Coast to play shows in LA, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle. Escaping the northeast winter to commune with a new coast the group plans to begin writing for a new album to be recorded next year.
